Information We Collect

Information you provide: account details (name, email, password); your role (Coffee Lover or Shop Owner); optional profile bio and photo; reviews you write (text, ratings, vibe tags, photos); coffee shops you submit; shop ownership claims; trip boards you create; Joe visit nominations; and messages you send us.

Information collected automatically: location data (GPS, used only while the app is in use, to show nearby shops, not stored permanently or tracked in the background); device information (type, OS, browser) for support; usage data (features used, time spent); and IP address for security and spam prevention.

How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your account; show coffee shops near you; display your reviews and profile; process ownership claims and disputes; send account-related email notifications; moderate content; improve the app; respond to support requests; and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, use it for unrelated targeted advertising, or make automated decisions affecting your rights.

Location Data

We request your device location to show nearby coffee shops. Location access is optional. If location access is denied, the app shows a general list of coffee shops and allows users to search any location manually. We do not track your location in the background, it is accessed only while you are actively using the app.

Photos and Videos

Photos or videos you upload with reviews are stored on our servers and displayed publicly on the relevant shop page. Please don't upload images containing sensitive personal information, and consider removing location (EXIF GPS) data from photos before uploading.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with: trusted service providers (hosting, email, mapping) bound by confidentiality; Apple Maps (MapKit), which powers our maps and may process your location under Apple's privacy terms; payment processors for in-app purchases or business transactions, where applicable (we do not store card numbers); legal authorities when required by law; and, in the event of a business merger or acquisition, with notice to you beforehand.

User-Generated Content

Reviews, photos, vibe tags, shared trip boards, and other content you submit are displayed publicly alongside your display name. You are responsible for what you submit and must not post false, abusive, or rights-violating content. We may remove content that violates our guidelines.

Data Retention

We retain your account and content while your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we deactivate it and remove your personal profile information; some content such as reviews may be retained in anonymized form. You may request data deletion anytime by contacting us.

Your Rights

You can access, correct, or request deletion of your information; withdraw location consent through device settings; and opt out of non-essential emails. To exercise these rights, contact jill@mochajoe.coffee.

Children's Privacy

Mocha Joe is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information and will delete it if discovered. Parents or guardians with concerns can contact jill@mochajoe.coffee.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of internet transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and understand site usage. You can control cookies in your browser settings; disabling them may affect some features.

Third-Party Links

The app may link to third-party sites (coffee shop websites, Instagram, TikTok). We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy and will revise the date above. For significant changes, we'll notify you by email or in-app. Continued use means you accept the updated policy.
